to Winston-Salem and moved with brothers and Gideon brendel to Missouri because
of ruin after the war.

James Oscar Young

Personal Research of Fay E. Young Chandler:

On the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System Web Site information was found for a Jas. Young, Missouri State Guard, Confederate. It is listed as being on M380, Roll 16. Using Computer #279180, in the DOS Search of the FHL, the film # was 0882017. No further information was on the form, other than the initials of J. O. was penciled in lightly, as if signing perhaps.

In census taken 7 June 1800 he is listed as Jas.O. Young & wife Sarah are in Johnson Co., Mo, E.D. #95, page 7: with 1 child, Elanson. M.E. Brendel & wife Susan live in the household also. It states that both his parents were born in Virginia. (Susan died in 1895 in Barry Co., Mo.)

It is probable that James O. & family are in Jackson Co., Mo by 1890, because the deed when they sell the property in Johnson Co. states he "is of Jackson Co".

In 1900 James O. & Sarah are in Fannin Co., Texas, with their 2 children, son Elanson and daughter Laura.

In 1910 James O. and wife Sarah are in Mitchell Co., Texas, Precint 2. It states that he was born in Mo, and both parents born in Virginia. Their grandson, Fred Young is in the household also.

In 1920 Texas soundex, J.O & wife lived in Dallas Co, Tx, the town of Grandprarie was written in and then crossed thru by census taker. States that he was born in Kansas. ED 105, sheet 8, line 51. Grandson Fred G. Young also lived in household.

In Arlington, Tarrant Co, Texas is William J. Brendel, born VA, aged 41 yrs. ED 158, sheet 40. He is Sarah Brendel's nephew.

Index to Deeds film # 959943, and film # 959984 Deed Bk 55, page 333, dated 10 April 1883 James O. Young and wife agree to purchase property from Singleton V. & Margaret J. Turner (who are of Merced Co., California.

On 18 June 1883, J.O. & wife got a Deed of Trust in Kingville Township, in Johnson Co., Mo. Listed as being in Bk F, pages 434 and 437 in the Index to Deeds, film #959943. The property is near the Johnson Co. & Jackson Co., Missouri line, in Section 11, Twn 46, Range 28.

On January 25, 1884, J. O & wife are listed with a Deed in reference to property next their previous purchase, also in Section 11, Twn 46, Range 28. Deed Bk 54, page 65, film # 959984

In Feb 1884, Jas. O. Young is listed in the Index to Deeds, Bk 54, Property in Section 11, Twn, 46, Rand 28. FHL film 0959944

On 31 May 1888, J.O Young & wife Sarah A are the party of the 2nd part in a quit claim in Johnson Co, Sect 11, Twn 46, R28. States that J.O. Young is of Jackson Co, Mo. at the above date. It was also filed at Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. This is the sale of the same property.

James O.'s death certificates states that he is to be buried in the Arlington Cemetery. Also stated that his father is Bruce Young and mother is Carrie McGuire. His daughter, Annie Laurie Young Hood, gave the information for the death certificate.


Sarah Anne Brendel

In 1870 Sarah is in Morgan Co., Indiana with her parents. Also in the household is her half brother Albert F. Painter.

Sarah A. has no Tombstone marker. Grover Brendle found it. It is just a plot of ground and is sunken a bit. James O. is buried there as well, per family information, although his grave is not marked.


Michael Alanson Brendel

All the following is personal research of Fay E. Young Chandler.

1850 M.E. Brendel is in Forsyth Co Census, wife Julia. They married 12 Jan 1850 in Forsyth Co NC. On Feb 7, 1855, he is listed as Alanson Brendle and he marry's Susan Panther (widow of David Painter, according to Barry Co., Mo. tomstone records).

March 18, 1862 he enrolled for the Confederate Infantry and on Aprl 30, 1862, he mustered into service. The record states that he was born in Stokes County, NC. He is 36 yrs old, a farmer. Height is 5' 7". Also the 53 Regiment NC Infantry (State Troops) describe him as being from Guilford Co, NC. He was released at Greensboro, Guilford County, NC. FHL film #0821771

Apr 1864 & July 1864: M.E. Brindle is listed as a Pvt in C.S. Navy. He appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War of Johnston's Army, paroled. Paroled at Greensboro on 16 May 1865. In April & July 1864 he is listed as being on the C.S.S. Arctic, listed as #139: M.E. Brindle, Lands.

1870 Morgan County Indiana Census: Green township is Michael Brindle, age 40 and wife Susan, children George, age 14 born NC and Sarah A., age 10 born NC, Albert F. Painter (Susan's son by 1st marriage).

1880 Johnson County, Missouri, town of Holden, he & wife Susan are living in household of their daugher & son in law, Jas. O. Young & Sarah Anne, taken 2 Sep 1881, Johnson Co, Mo, pg 227C.

Film#0959936 Pg 228-9 Johnson Co., Mo.: M. E. Brendel buys 1 old mower for .50 cents at the personal property sell of the estate of John Chapman, des'c wife is Cynthia Chapman. Record of sales 1875 - 82 Estates.

1898 approximately, he and wife must have lived in Butterfield, Barry County, Missouri. His wife, Susan died & is buried in that county in Jan 1898.

Feb 1900 he is widow in Red River Co., Texas.He received pension for service in Co. D, 53 NC Infantry & 2 years on ship "ArtiCahoy" in the Navy. Papers witnessed by G. T. Brendel & Sarah A. Young in 1899. Also, record is in "Index to Application for Texas Conf. Pensions: Approved Book, Application #06220, is listed as being in Red River Co, TX (Bk #1). Application for Conf. Pension in 1899.

1900 Fannin Co, TX census he in the household of James Oscar Young & wife Sarah, his son in law and daughter.

1900 Red River Co, Tx census, he is listed as 72, living with G. T. Brendel and wife, Sarah. M.E. is a widow. Listed in 2 separate 1900 census.

Michael Alanson's death date obtained from Mary Eddith Davis Brendel (wife of Charles H. "Bud" Brendel of Oklahoma) in 1964 for a school project.

Her tombstone reads: "Susan wife of David Painter, Born 12 June 1825, Died 5 Jan 1898. She died with Consumption at the home of Alfred Painter, according to Cassville Republican Jan 13, 1898.

Davidson Co., North Carolina marriages: David Painter married Susan Loman, 24 December 1849. Both of Davidson County, by Ranson Ellis, J.P.

In 1850 she was in Davidson Co., North Carolina, pg 296 married to David Painter, both 26 and born in NC. No children listed. FHL film #0444641.

In 1870, she was in Morgan Co., Indiana with Michael Brendel & family.

In 1880 she was in Johnson Co, Mo, with husband"Alanson Brendel"(M.E. Brendel on the census), and they were in the household of James Oscar Young and his wife Sara Brendel, listed as "in-laws".

Her tombstone reads: "Susan wife of David Painter, Born 12 June 1825, Died 5 Jan 1898." She died with Consumption at the home of her son, Alfred Painter, according to the Cassville Republican newspaper, dated 13 January 1898.

In 1900 M. E. Brendel is in Texas and listed as a widower.

In the 1910 Census when she is married to George T. Brendle, she is listed as having had 5 children born to her. So far, we have 2 Cameron children, and 1 Sparks child, so think that probably the other 2 are Cameron's. Birthplace of her father and mother is listed as Arkansas.
